So when skincare brands promise to “balance your microbiome”, “feed good bacteria” or create “microbiome-friendly skin”, they are talking about real biology.
But real biology can still produce exaggerated marketing.

Who Exactly Is Living on Your Skin?
There is no single universal “healthy skin microbiome.”
Microbial communities vary between people and between different areas of the same person’s body.
An oily forehead is a different habitat from a dry cheek, forearm or moist underarm.

Yes. Skincare can influence the skin environment and microbial communities.
But this is where nuance matters.
A change in the microbiome is not automatically harmful, and it is not automatically the same thing as dysbiosis.

3️⃣ Was the finished formula actually studied?
Ingredient research is not the same as clinical evidence for the bottle in your hand.
4️⃣ What was measured?
Microbial composition? Barrier function? Redness? Hydration?

You don’t need to micromanage every microorganism on your face. You need to stop making their home unnecessarily hostile.
